Upgrade Thunderbird Fails With mozMapi32.dll
Posted on March 5th, 2008 in Tech Notes |
I tried to upgrade Thunderbird this morning and during the installation, I ran into an error with file mozMapi32.dll.
Strangely enough, this turned out that my Logitech Quickcam software had a lock on this file. Just right click on the Quickcam icon in your system tray and exit the Quickcam software or terminate the process. Installation of Thunderbird will proceed with no problem.

I had this same problem and was banging my head on the desk until I stumbled upon your post. Thank you, it is fixed!
Thank you so much. This was driving me insane. What a silly problem.
Interesting fix, but I don’t run a webcam. I have lost years of mail by trying to install Thunderbird 2.0.0.12. It didn’t work, and my files are gone. The installation stops, telling me “error opening file for writing” (Mozmapi32.dll). I have made a search in my files and the two dll copies it found are not locked. Can anyone assist, please? rwn
I also had the same problem with the upgrade - neither an upgrade nor a reinstall would work. When I exited the Logitec QuickCam software the install proceeded normally. Thanks for the tip.
This trick worked for as well. I am so relieved after being able to get the access to thunder bird!
thank you so much for the quick, correct solution to an unexpected troubleshoot!
